Dean Dillon - A Special Evening Supporting McKinney Education Foundation

There are great country songwriters. And then there is Dean Dillon.

A Country Music Hall of Famer. A Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer. And one of the Mount Rushmore living songwriters in country music.

On Thursday, October 1, The Rook will welcome one of the most important songwriters in the history of the genre for an extraordinarily intimate evening of songs, stories, and the stories behind the songs.

Dean Dillon’s fingerprints are all over the soundtrack of country music.

He wrote or co-wrote more than 70 songs recorded by George Strait, including “The Chair,” “Marina del Rey,” “Nobody in His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her,” “Easy Come, Easy Go,” “The Best Day,” “It Ain’t Cool to Be Crazy About You,” “Famous Last Words of a Fool,” “She Let Herself Go,” “Lead On,” “If I Know Me,” “I’ve Come to Expect It from You,” “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind,” and “A Fire I Can’t Put Out.”

He also wrote “Tennessee Whiskey” and Gary Stewart’s “An Empty Glass,” two songs that have become permanent parts of the country music songbook.

His songs have been recorded by George Jones, Gary Stewart, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Keith Whitley, Brooks & Dunn, Lee Ann Womack, Vern Gosdin, and generations of other country artists.

Dean Dillon has spent a lifetime writing songs that became part of country music history. On October 1, he’ll tell us how they happened.

He’ll take us behind the curtain on where the ideas came from, how the songs were written, the artists who brought them to life, and the stories collected across one of country music’s truly legendary songwriting careers.

The evening will also support McKinney Education Foundation scholarships, helping create opportunities for McKinney ISD students. A minimum donation of $150 per person is required to attend, and the Burress Community Foundation will match every donation, doubling the impact of each contribution.

Seating will be assigned based on donation amount, with higher donations receiving priority placement. The $150 per person minimum secures attendance but does not guarantee a specific seat or table.

For one night only, one of the greatest catalogs in country music comes to life through the man who wrote it.

This is going to be one of the most special nights we have ever hosted at The Rook.
